About Wellspring
Wellspring was formed in 2014 when two Wirksworth churches, Methodist and Baptist came together to begin a new life as one church, a Local Ecumenical Partnership seeking to worship God and serve our community as one united fellowship based in the former Methodist Chapel.
This has been a very courageous and fruitful move by members of the two churches, whose history goes back a long way in Wirksworth. It has proved ‘the whole is greater than the sum of the parts’ as we have grown and flourished, as today members are drawn from all Christian backgrounds, united by our faith in Jesus and desire to make him known.
Our extended and refurbished building, opened in 2022, has become a hub of community activity, and through which we seek to make God visible.

Our Journey
Pre-2014
Prayerful conversations about forming a new church were happening locally and between our ‘parent’ denominations.
2014
Wellspring was launched with a service based on a wedding ceremony as the two churches came together, meeting in the Methodist chapel.
2017
Revd Kevin Price was inducted as the first minister of our new church. Plans were drawn up for an annexe to our building.
2022
Our new and refurbished building was opened, and, following the Pandemic, this became the launchpad for the church of today.
2026
The journey continues with church life and community engagement growing, as God is made visible.
Wellspring Church
Our Vision
In 2019 our church vision was re-shaped and is now expressed by these three statements:
Following Jesus Christ
We seek to follow the example of Jesus in word and action, exploring what it means to live faithfully and justly in today’s world.
Worship and Prayer
We delight to be a worshipping community, gathering regularly to praise God, listen for God’s word and share in prayer and Communion.
Community and welcome
We aim to be a community of welcome, offering generous hospitality, caring for one another and working with others for the good of Wirksworth and the wider world.
In all of this we want to make God visible in our worship, in our relationships and in our involvement with the community.
Community & Outreach
Wellspring is a community within a community. Beyond our leadership team, the church is supported by members who oversee spiritual & practical aspects of our life together. Our café is open at least weekly and also in support of the many community events that are part of Wirksworth’s busy calendar, all with legendary hospitality. Anything from coffee & cake to a 4-course meal is possible at Wellspring! (see our event calendar for details)
Church-led events reach out to parents & toddlers; primary school aged children; older people with dementia issues; and those seeking to get things repaired! Then with our building used by groups working with teenagers; mental wellbeing; alcohol issues; home schooling; U3A; and various action groups; a significant impact is being made.
Undergirding all of this is an understanding of God as Community into which we are invited to participate and belong, with our building seen as a community space in which worship and prayer happen.
